Ingredients

Units Scale
  • Turkey Burgers:

    • 3 tablespoons avocado oil (plus more for frying)
    • 1 tablespoon coconut aminos
    • 1 teaspoon crushed chipotle chile pepper flakes (or less, to taste)
    • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
    • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
    • 1 tablespoon fresh cilantro, chopped
    • 1 teaspoon sea salt
    • 1 lb ground turkey
  • Chipotle Mayo:

    • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
    • 1/2 teaspoon chipotle chile powder (or more crushed chipotle chile pepper)
  • Optional for Serving:

    • Burger buns
    • Salsa
    • Avocado, thinly sliced
    • Fresh cilantro

Instructions

  1. Prepare Turkey Mixture: In a large bowl, whisk together avocado oil, coconut aminos, chipotle flakes, smoked paprika, cumin, oregano, cilantro, and salt. Add ground turkey and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
  2. Shape Patties: Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and form into patties. Make a thumbprint in the center of each patty to prevent them from bulging while cooking.
  3. Cook Burgers:
    • Stovetop: Heat avocado oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook burgers for 4-5 minutes per side.
    • Oven: Bake on a parchment-lined baking sheet at 400°F (204°C) for 16-18 minutes, then broil for 2-3 minutes to brown.
    • Grill: Grill over medium-high heat for 3-4 minutes per side.
    • For all methods: Cook until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C). Rest for 5 minutes to reach 165°F (74°C).
  4. Make Chipotle Mayo: While the burgers cook, whisk together mayonnaise and chipotle chile powder.
  5. Assemble and Serve: Serve turkey burgers on buns with chipotle mayo, avocado, fresh cilantro, and salsa.

Notes

  • Adjust the amount of chipotle chile pepper flakes to your preferred spice level.
  • For juicier burgers, avoid overmixing the turkey mixture and don’t press down on the patties while cooking.
  • Leftover cooked turkey burgers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
