Description

This Hawaiian Burger is a delicious and easy-to-make recipe that’s perfect for summer grilling. Juicy beef patties are topped with grilled pineapple, red onion, and melted mozzarella cheese, all served on a toasted bun with a drizzle of teriyaki sauce.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • Cooking spray
  • 1 pound 80/20 ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 bottle teriyaki sauce, divided
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1 can sliced pineapple, drained
  • 1 large red onion, sliced into 1/2-inch thick rings
  • 4 slices mozzarella cheese
  • 4 burger buns

Instructions

  1. Prepare grill and beef: Preheat grill to medium-high heat and spray with cooking spray. In a bowl, combine ground beef, 2 tablespoons teriyaki sauce, soy sauce, ginger, and garlic salt. Mix gently to combine. Form into 4 patties with a dimple in the center.
  2. Marinate pineapple and onions: In a separate bowl, toss pineapple and onion slices with a few tablespoons of teriyaki sauce.
  3. Grill: Grill burgers for about 4 minutes per side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 145°F or higher. Top with mozzarella cheese during the last few minutes of cooking. Grill pineapple rings, onion slices, and buns for about 2 minutes per side.
  4. Rest and assemble: Remove everything from the grill and let burgers rest for 5 minutes. Place burgers on the bottom buns, top with onions, pineapple, and a drizzle of teriyaki sauce. Add the top buns and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use 80/20 ground beef for best flavor.
  • Keep ground beef cold to prevent sticking.
  • Don’t overwork the beef mixture.
  • Make a dimple in the patties to help them cook evenly.
  • Use an instant-read thermometer to ensure burgers are cooked to the proper temperature.
  • You can make the patties ahead of time and store them in the refrigerator for 1-2 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for 2-3 days.
