- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 1/2 cups frozen mixed vegetables
- 3 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1/2 cup dry red wine
- 1 (14-ounce) can beef broth
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon Herbes de Provence
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
For the Mashed Potatoes:
- 5 cups diced potatoes, peeled and boiled until fork tender
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 cup milk
- Paprika
Instructions
- Brown beef and sauté vegetables: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Brown ground beef in a skillet over medium heat. Drain excess grease. Add onion, garlic, and mixed vegetables to the skillet. Sauté for 10 minutes.
- Make sauce: Sprinkle cornstarch into the skillet and stir well. Add red wine, beef broth, salt, pepper, Herbes de Provence, and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer and cook until thickened, about 10 minutes.
- Make mashed potatoes: While the beef mixture simmers, mash the cooked potatoes with butter, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and milk until smooth.
- Assemble and bake: Transfer the beef mixture to an oven-safe dish. Spread mashed potatoes evenly over the top. Use a fork to create texture on the potatoes and sprinkle with paprika. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until bubbly and golden brown.
- Serve: Serve hot.
Notes
- You can use different types of ground meat, such as lamb or turkey.
- If you don’t have Herbes de Provence, you can use a combination of dried thyme, rosemary, and oregano.
