Description

This Easy Shepherd’s Pie is a classic comfort food dish that’s perfect for a hearty and satisfying meal. It features a flavorful ground beef filling with vegetables, topped with a creamy layer of mashed potatoes and baked to golden perfection.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 1/2 cups frozen mixed vegetables
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup dry red wine
  • 1 (14-ounce) can beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon Herbes de Provence
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

For the Mashed Potatoes:

  • 5 cups diced potatoes, peeled and boiled until fork tender
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Paprika

Instructions

  1. Brown beef and sauté vegetables: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Brown ground beef in a skillet over medium heat. Drain excess grease. Add onion, garlic, and mixed vegetables to the skillet. Sauté for 10 minutes.
  2. Make sauce: Sprinkle cornstarch into the skillet and stir well. Add red wine, beef broth, salt, pepper, Herbes de Provence, and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer and cook until thickened, about 10 minutes.
  3. Make mashed potatoes: While the beef mixture simmers, mash the cooked potatoes with butter, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and milk until smooth.
  4. Assemble and bake: Transfer the beef mixture to an oven-safe dish. Spread mashed potatoes evenly over the top. Use a fork to create texture on the potatoes and sprinkle with paprika. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until bubbly and golden brown.
  5. Serve: Serve hot.

Notes

  • You can use different types of ground meat, such as lamb or turkey.
  • If you don’t have Herbes de Provence, you can use a combination of dried thyme, rosemary, and oregano.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
