Scale
For the Noodles
- 6 ounces Egg Noodles
For the Beef
- 1 pound Ground Beef
For the Sauce
- 1/4 cup Butter
- 1/4 cup Flour
- 1 cup Beef Broth
- 1 1/4 cups Milk
- 1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Onion Powder
- 1 teaspoon Pepper
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1/4 cup Sour Cream
Instructions
- Cook the Noodles: Bring a large pot of water to a boil, add the egg noodles, and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- Brown the Beef: While the noodles cook, heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until fully browned and no pink remains, about 6-8 minutes. Drain excess fat and transfer beef to a plate.
- Make the Roux: In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the flour and whisk continuously for about 2 minutes to create a roux that will thicken the sauce.
- Prepare the Sauce: Gradually pour in the beef broth while whisking to prevent lumps. Continue whisking until the mixture thickens, about 3-4 minutes. Then, slowly add the milk, stirring constantly, until the sauce is smooth and creamy, about 5-7 minutes.
- Season the Sauce: Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt until evenly distributed.
- Combine and Heat: Reduce heat to low. Add the cooked noodles and browned ground beef back into the skillet, stirring to combine and heat everything through.
- Finish with Sour Cream: Gently stir in the sour cream until fully incorporated, creating a rich, tangy sauce.
- Serve: Serve hot, garnished with your favorite vegetables or a slice of garlic toast for a complete meal.
Notes
- Feel free to swap out the egg noodles for your favorite pasta variety; just adjust cooking times accordingly.
- Doubling the recipe is highly recommended as it rewarms well and satisfies larger groups.
- For extra flavor, add sautéed mushrooms or chopped onions into the beef while cooking.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
