Ingredients

Units Scale

Shrimp Balls:

  • 1 1/2 pounds shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 tablespoon canola oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 shallots, chopped
  • 3 Thai chili peppers, seeded and chopped
  • Juice of one lime
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1/2 cup Panko bread crumbs
  • 2 green onions, chopped (green parts only)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

For Serving:

  • Cooking spray
  • Sweet chili sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat the oven to 350℉.
  2. Prepare Shrimp Mixture: Finely chop shrimp in a food processor. In a bowl, combine shrimp with egg whites, bread crumbs, green onion, cilantro, salt, and lime juice.
  3. Sauté Aromatics (Optional): Sauté garlic, shallots, and chili peppers in oil until translucent. Let cool.
  4. Combine Ingredients: Add sautéed veggies to the shrimp mixture and combine well.
  5. Form Shrimp Balls: Shape 1-inch balls from the mixture and place on a baking sheet.
  6. Bake: Bake for 15-17 minutes, then broil for 2 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Serve: Serve with sweet chili sauce.

Notes

  • Thai chili peppers are hot, so remove seeds and handle with care.
  • Using a food processor to chop the shrimp makes the process easier.
  • Spray tops of shrimp balls for even browning in the oven.
  • Sautéing veggies is optional.
  • Shrimp balls can be made ahead and refrigerated or frozen.
