Description
Oven-Baked Cabbage Burgers offer a healthy twist on classic burgers by replacing traditional buns with thick cabbage slices, combining a flavorful meat mixture baked to perfection, optionally topped with melted cheese for a delicious and low-carb meal.
Ingredients
Scale
For the Cabbage
- 1 small head Cabbage, cut into thick slices
- 2 tablespoons Olive Oil, for brushing
For the Meat Mixture
- 1 pound Ground Beef or Turkey or ground chicken or plant-based options
- 1 medium Onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves Garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1 teaspoon Black Pepper
- 1 teaspoon Smoked Paprika
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
- 1 large Egg (optional, for binding)
For Topping (Optional)
- 1 cup Cheese, for sprinkling on top
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the burgers evenly and thoroughly.
- Prepare Cabbage: Slice a small head of cabbage into thick ½ inch slices and brush both sides generously with olive oil to help them roast nicely in the oven.
- Mix Meat: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground meat of choice, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, smoked paprika, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to evenly distribute all flavors. Add the egg if using, to help bind the mixture together.
- Form Patties: Shape the meat mixture into patties sized to fit over the cabbage slices, then place each patty on a cabbage slice arranged on a baking sheet.
- Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the bacon burgers for about 25 minutes, or until the meat is fully cooked through.
- Add Cheese (Optional): If desired, sprinkle cheese on top of each burger and switch the oven to broil. Broil for an additional 3 to 5 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Serve: Remove from oven and serve immediately, optionally garnished with fresh parsley for added color and flavor.
Notes
- Store leftover burgers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days to maintain freshness.
- For longer storage, freeze the burgers for up to 3 months and thaw before reheating.
- You can substitute ground chicken or plant-based ground alternatives for a different protein option.
- Omitting the egg makes the recipe egg-free but might affect binding; use if desired.
- Adjust seasoning to taste or add other spices like cumin or chili powder for variation.
