Description

Monte Cristo Sliders are a fun, crowd-pleasing twist on the classic sandwich, made with layers of ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese on soft Hawaiian rolls. Brushed with a buttery egg wash, baked until melty and golden, and finished with a dusting of powdered sugar, these sliders are perfect for parties, brunches, or a family snack. Serve with your favorite jam for a sweet-savory flavor combination everyone will love.

Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Sliders

  • 12 Hawaiian rolls
  • 12 slices deli-sliced ham
  • 12 slices deli-sliced turkey
  • 12 slices deli-sliced swiss cheese

For the Wash

  • 1/3 cup (76 g) salted butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

Finishing Touches

  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar

Optional Dip

  • Raspberry or strawberry jam, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven & Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350ยฐF (177ยฐC). Spray a 9ร—13 inch baking pan with non-stick spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare the Rolls: Without separating the rolls, slice the entire package in half horizontally. Place the bottom halves into the prepared baking pan.
  3. Assembly: Place half of the Swiss cheese slices over the bottom rolls. Next, layer all the ham slices, then all the turkey slices, and finally the remaining Swiss cheese slices. Top with the upper halves of the rolls.
  4. Make and Apply Wash: In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, egg, and pepper. Using a pastry brush, evenly coat the tops of the rolls with this mixture.
  5. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, or until the cheese is thoroughly melted and the tops are toasted golden brown. If the buns brown too quickly, tent with foil to prevent burning.
  6. Finishing Touch: Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle the tops with powdered sugar. Optionally, serve with raspberry or strawberry jam for dipping.

Notes

  • Hawaiian rolls add sweetness but can be substituted with any soft dinner rolls.
  • Tent foil loosely if the tops brown too fast to avoid sticking.
  • Try adding Dijon mustard or spreading a thin layer inside the buns for extra flavor.
  • Best served warm for optimal melty cheese and texture.
