- 1/2 cup finely diced onion
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 pound ground beef
- 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning, divided
- 3 cups marinara sauce, divided
- 1 pound spaghetti
- Kosher salt, to taste (for pasta water)
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup ricotta cheese
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
Instructions
- Preheat and brown meat: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish. In a large skillet, brown ground beef with onion and garlic. Drain excess grease. Season with 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning and 2 cups marinara sauce. Set aside.
- Cook pasta: Cook spaghetti in salted water until slightly undercooked (3 minutes less than al dente). Drain and toss with 1 cup marinara sauce.
- Make cheese mixture: In a bowl, combine cream cheese, ricotta cheese, garlic powder, and remaining Italian seasoning.
- Layer ingredients: In the prepared dish, layer half the spaghetti, the cheese mixture, remaining spaghetti, and then the meat sauce. Top with mozzarella cheese.
- Bake: Bake for 30 minutes, or until golden brown. Broil for 2-3 minutes for a crispier top, if desired.
- Serve: Serve immediately.
Notes
- Be sure to undercook the spaghetti slightly to prevent it from becoming mushy in the oven.
- You can use a different type of pasta, such as penne or rotini.
- For a spicier dish, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the meat sauce.
- Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
