Description

Memaw’s Sausage Bundles are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer featuring savory cooked pork sausage combined with creamy chive and onion cream cheese, all wrapped in flaky crescent roll dough and baked to golden perfection. Perfect for parties or snack time, these bite-sized bundles are served with tangy Dijon mustard for an extra flavor boost.

Ingredients

Units Scale

Sausage Mixture

  • 8 oz. regular bulk pork sausage
  • 1/2 cup chive and onion cream cheese spread

Dough

  • 1 (8-oz.) can crescent rolls

Optional

  • Dijon mustard, for dipping

Instructions

  1. Cook the sausage: Preheat oven to 375°. In a medium nonstick skillet over medium-high heat, cook the bulk pork sausage, crumbling it with a wooden spoon, until fully cooked and no longer pink, about 5 minutes. Transfer the cooked sausage to a medium bowl and let it cool slightly, about 5 minutes.
  2. Combine with cream cheese: Add the chive and onion cream cheese spread to the cooled sausage in the bowl. Stir the mixture thoroughly until well combined.
  3. Prepare the dough: Unroll the crescent roll dough onto a flat surface and press it into a 12-inch by 9-inch rectangle, firmly pressing the perforations to seal them together. Cut the rectangle into 24 squares, each about 2 inches by 2 inches in size.
  4. Form the bundles: Spoon about 1 heaping teaspoon of the sausage and cream cheese mixture onto the center of each dough square. Bring the 4 corners of the dough square together to slightly overlap above the filling. Twist and pinch the dough to seal each bundle securely. Arrange the bundles on an ungreased baking sheet, spaced evenly.
  5. Bake the bundles: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the sausage bundles until the dough is golden brown, approximately 10 to 12 minutes.
  6. Serve: Remove from the oven and serve warm with Dijon mustard on the side for dipping, if desired.

Notes

  • Ensure the sausage is fully cooked before mixing with cream cheese to avoid undercooked meat.
  • Pressing the crescent roll perforations firmly helps prevent the bundles from opening during baking.
  • You can customize the filling by adding finely chopped herbs or spices to enhance flavor.
  • Serve these bundles hot for best taste and texture, as the dough will be flaky and the filling warm and creamy.
  • These bundles can be prepared in advance and baked just before serving for convenience.
