Description

These Honey Barbeque Chicken Meatballs are a delightful appetizer or snack, combining tender chicken meatballs with a sweet and tangy homemade BBQ sauce. Perfect for game nights, parties, or even main meals, this recipe is guaranteed to impress!

Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Meatballs:

  • 1 lb. ground chicken
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup thinly sliced green onions
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 2 tbsp. minced fresh flat-leaf parsley
  • 1 tsp. minced garlic
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. ground black pepper

For the Barbeque Sauce:

  • 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp. red wine vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/8 tsp. ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 400ยฐF (200ยฐC). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and spray it lightly with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare the Meatball Mixture
In a large bowl, combine the ground chicken, breadcrumbs, green onions, beaten eggs, parsley, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper. Use your hands to gently mix the ingredients together, being careful not to over-mix to ensure the meatballs remain tender.
  3. Shape and Bake Meatballs
Roll the mixture into 12-14 golf ball-sized meatballs and place them evenly spaced on the prepared baking sheet. Bake the meatballs for approximately 15 minutes, or until they are cooked through.
  4. Prepare the BBQ Sauce
While the meatballs are baking, start preparing the barbeque sauce. In a medium bowl, whisk together tomato sauce, honey, Worcestershire sauce, red wine vinegar, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper until fully combined. Transfer the mixture to a large saucepan and heat over medium-high, stirring occasionally, for 7-8 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  5. Coat the Meatballs in Sauce
Reduce the heat to low and gently add the cooked meatballs to the thickened sauce. Stir them carefully to ensure they are completely coated. Let the meatballs simmer in the sauce for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, garnish the finished meatballs with freshly chopped parsley or green onion slices before serving.
  • If you prefer a spicier BBQ sauce, consider adding a pinch of chili powder or a splash of hot sauce.
  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently on the stovetop to maintain their texture.
