Description

These Hibachi Steak Bowls bring the delicious flavors of a Japanese steakhouse right to your kitchen! Tender sirloin steak, sautéed vegetables, and fried rice are drizzled with a creamy Yum Yum sauce for a satisfying and easy-to-make meal.


Ingredients

  • 2 lbs top sirloin steak, cut into rough chunks
  • 1 tablespoon mirin
  • 6 cloves garlic, finely minced or pressed
  • 2 teaspoons ginger paste
  • 2 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon sesame oil, divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground white pepper (or black pepper)
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
  • 3 medium carrots, thinly cut on a bias
  • 2 medium zucchinis, sliced in half lengthwise & then cut into half moons
  • 45 ounces sliced mushrooms (baby bella)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 12 tablespoons teriyaki sauce or Japanese BBQ Sauce (Bachan’s recommended)
  • For serving: Fried rice & store-bought Yum Yum Sauce

Instructions

  1. Prep & Marinate Steak:
    • Place sirloin in a large bowl or plastic bag.
    • Add mirin, garlic, ginger, 1 teaspoon sesame oil, white pepper, and salt.
    • Toss to coat thoroughly.
    • Marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Sauté Vegetables:
    • In a wok or large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons butter and 1 tablespoon sesame oil over medium heat.
    • Add carrots, zucchini, and mushrooms.
    • Cook, tossing often, until tender and golden brown (10-15 minutes).
    • Season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
    • Transfer to a plate and set aside. Wipe the pan clean if needed.
  3. Cook Steak:
    • In the same pan, heat remaining 2 tablespoons butter and 1 tablespoon sesame oil over medium-high heat.
    • Add steak and cook, tossing often, until seared (3-4 minutes). Avoid overcooking.
    • Remove from heat and drizzle with teriyaki or Japanese BBQ sauce. Toss to coat.
  4. Assemble Bowls:
    • Evenly divide cooked steak, sautéed vegetables, and fried rice into bowls.
    • Drizzle with Yum Yum sauce.
    • Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Yum Yum Sauce: Find store-bought Yum Yum Sauce in the international section of your grocery store. Terry Ho’s is a popular brand.
  • Fried Rice: Use store-bought frozen fried rice for convenience (InnovAsian recommended) or prepare your own.
