Ingredients

Units Scale

Filling

  • 1/2 pound chopped bacon
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon steak seasoning (e.g., McCormick)
  • 12 ounces Velveeta, cubed

Dough

  • 1 (13.8 ounce) thin crust pizza dough (e.g., Pillsbury)
  • 1 1/2 cups grated cheddar jack cheese

Sauce

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • Salt & pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Oven & Baking Sheet
Preheat your oven to 425ยฐF (220ยฐC). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside. This will prevent sticking and make cleanup easy.
  2. Cook the Bacon
In a large skillet over medium-low heat, cook the chopped bacon until it is crispy. Remove the bacon slices from the skillet and set them aside. Drain most of the grease to avoid an overly oily filling.
  3. Prepare the Filling
Using the same skillet, turn the heat up to medium-high. Add the chopped onions and lean ground beef. Cook until the onions are softened and the beef is fully browned. Drain any excess liquid or grease. Reduce the heat to low, then add the cooked bacon back to the skillet. Season the mixture with steak seasoning. Stir in the cubed Velveeta cheese, stirring continuously until fully melted. Remove the skillet from the heat.
  4. Assemble the Bread
Roll out the thin crust pizza dough onto the prepared baking sheet, forming a 15ร—10-inch rectangle. Evenly spread the meat mixture on top of the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges to prevent spillage while rolling. Sprinkle grated cheddar jack cheese evenly over the meat mixture.
  5. Roll and Bake
Carefully roll up the dough, starting from one of the long sides, and pinch the edges tightly to seal. Place the rolled dough seam-side down on the baking sheet. Bake for 15โ€“20 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown. Allow the bread to cool for 5โ€“10 minutes before slicing into pieces.
  6. Make the Sauce
In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, ketchup, salt, and pepper until smooth. Serve this tangy sauce as a dip for the sliced garbage bread.

Notes

  • Customization: Feel free to swap out or add ingredients like diced bell peppers, olives, or mushrooms for additional flavor.
  • Make-Ahead: You can prepare the filling in advance and refrigerate it until you are ready to assemble and bake the bread.
  • Dough Substitute: If you prefer a homemade crust, use your favorite pizza dough recipe instead of pre-packaged dough.
  • Cooking Tip: Be sure to let the bread cool slightly before slicing to help it maintain its shape.
