  • 1 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1/2 lb. bulk sweet Italian sausage
  • 1 cup yellow onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tsp. Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 tsp. red pepper flakes
  • 1 24-oz. jar marinara sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups water

Pasta

  • 8 lasagna noodles, uncooked and broken into roughly 2-3-inch pieces

Cheese Mixture

  • 1 cup whole milk ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/3 cup grated parmesan cheese, divided
  • 1 tsp. dried parsley
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella, divided

Garnish

  • 1/4 cup basil leaves, chopped

Instructions

  1. Cook Meat and Onion: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef, Italian sausage, and chopped onion. Cook, breaking up the meat with a wooden spoon, until the meat is no longer pink and onions are translucent. Drain excess fat from the skillet.
  2. Add Garlic and Seasonings: Return the skillet to the stove, add minced garlic, and cook for 2 minutes until fragrant. Stir in Italian seasoning and red pepper flakes.
  3. Add Sauce, Water, and Noodles: Pour in marinara sauce and water. Stir in the broken lasagna noodles, mixing everything well. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer. Cover the skillet and cook for 15 minutes until noodles are tender.
  4. Prepare Cheese Mixture: In a small bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, half of the parmesan cheese, dried parsley, salt, black pepper, and half of the shredded mozzarella cheese until well blended.
  5. Add Cheese Mixture and Cook: Dollop the cheese mixture evenly over the noodles in the skillet. Cover the skillet again and cook for an additional 5 minutes to melt the cheese and heat through.
