Ingredients

Units Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 envelope taco seasoning (or homemade equivalent)
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 medium head iceberg lettuce, torn (about 8 cups)
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups broken tortilla chips or Doritos
  • 1/4 cup spicy ranch dressing

Optional Toppings

  • Chopped tomatoes
  • Fresh cilantro
  • Sliced black olives
  • Other favorite toppings (if desired)

Instructions

  1. Cook the Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef for 6-8 minutes, breaking it up into crumbles, until it is no longer pink. Drain any excess fat from the skillet.
  2. Add Seasoning: Stir in the taco seasoning and water to the cooked beef. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and let it simmer, uncovered, for 4-6 minutes or until thickened. Stir occasionally, then remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.
  3. Assemble the Salad: In a large bowl, add the torn iceberg lettuce. Top evenly with the slightly cooled beef mixture, crushed chips or Doritos, and shredded cheddar cheese.
  4. Add Toppings & Dressing: Sprinkle your choice of additional toppings such as tomatoes, cilantro, or olives over the salad. Drizzle the spicy ranch dressing over everything.
  5. Toss and Serve: Gently toss the salad to combine all ingredients thoroughly. Serve immediately for the freshest taste and the best crunch.

Notes

  • For a lighter option, use ground turkey or chicken instead of beef.
  • Add beans for extra protein and fiber.
  • Add the chips right before serving to prevent them from getting soggy.
  • Customize your toppings to fit your preferences.
