Description

This Crockpot BBQ Chicken recipe delivers tender, juicy shredded chicken slow-cooked in a flavorful BBQ sauce blend. Perfect for making easy, delicious sandwiches topped with coleslaw or your favorite sides. Utilizing a slow cooker ensures the chicken remains moist and absorbing all the spices and sauce.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken

  • 2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts (about 4 medium breasts)

BBQ Sauce Mixture

  • 1.5 cups BBQ sauce (use your favorite brand)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

For Serving

  • Buns
  • Coleslaw or preferred sandwich toppings

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Slow Cooker: Place the boneless skinless chicken breasts evenly in the bottom of your slow cooker.
  2. Make the Sauce: In a medium bowl, combine BBQ sauce, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, chili powder, onion powder, and garlic powder. Stir well until the mixture is smooth and fully blended.
  3. Coat the Chicken: Pour the prepared sauce over the chicken breasts in the slow cooker. Toss or use a spoon to ensure all the chicken is well coated with the sauce.
  4. Slow Cook: Cover the slow cooker with the lid. Cook on high for 3 to 4 hours (3.5 hours recommended) or on low for 6 to 7 hours, until the chicken is tender and easily shreds with a fork.
  5. Shred the Chicken: Using two forks, shred the cooked chicken directly in the slow cooker. Mix the shredded chicken thoroughly with the sauce so that it’s evenly coated.
  6. Season & Serve: Taste and season with salt and pepper as needed. Serve the BBQ chicken hot on buns with coleslaw or your favorite sides for delicious sandwiches.

Notes

  • Makes approximately 6-8 sandwiches depending on stuffing size.
  • Shred the chicken to your preferred texture, whether coarse or finely shredded.
  • You can substitute chicken breasts with boneless skinless chicken thighs if preferred.
  • Using 4 medium chicken breasts usually equals about 2 pounds.
  • The recipe uses a slow cooker (Crockpot), but there is also an Instant Pot version available separately.
