Description

These Chicken Philly Sandwiches are a delicious and easy way to enjoy the classic flavors of a Philly cheesesteak. Tender chicken, sautรฉed onions and peppers, and melted provolone cheese are piled high on hoagie rolls for a satisfying and flavorful meal.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 1/2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons avocado oil, divided
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • 6 slices provolone cheese

Instructions

  1. Season Chicken: In a small bowl, mix together the smoked paprika, salt, cumin, dried oregano, and black pepper. Sprinkle the spice mixture over the thinly sliced chicken breast, ensuring each piece is well-coated.
  2. Cook Chicken: Heat 1 tablespoon of avocado oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the seasoned chicken slices to the skillet and cook until browned and no longer pink inside, about 5-6 minutes. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Sautรฉ Vegetables: In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of avocado oil. Add the thinly sliced onions, green bell peppers, and red bell peppers. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are softened and slightly caramelized, about 8-10 minutes.
  4. Add Garlic and Worcestershire Sauce: Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for another 30-45 seconds until fragrant. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce to deglaze the pan and add flavor.
  5. Combine Chicken and Vegetables: Return the cooked chicken to the skillet with the vegetables. Stir to combine and cook together for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to blend.
  6. Melt Cheese: Reduce the heat to low and place the sliced provolone cheese on top of the chicken and vegetable mixture in the skillet. Cover the skillet with a lid and let the cheese melt for about 1-2 minutes.
  7. Assemble Sandwiches: Open the hoagie rolls and place them on a serving platter or individual plates. Using a spatula, evenly distribute the cheesy chicken and vegetable mixture among the hoagie rolls.
  8. Serve: Serve the Chicken Philly Sandwiches immediately while the filling is still hot and the cheese is melted.

Notes

  • Bread: You can use any type of hoagie roll or sub roll you like.
  • Cheese: You can use your favorite type of cheese for these sandwiches. Provolone, American cheese, and Cheez Whiz are all popular choices.
  • Storage: Chicken Philly Sandwiches should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Reheat in a skillet or microwave before serving.
