Description

This easy Cheddar Quick Bread is a savory, cheesy loaf that requires no yeast and minimal prep. It combines freshly shredded cheddar cheese with classic pantry staples, resulting in a moist, flavorful bread that’s perfect sliced and served warm with butter or chive cream cheese. Ideal for a quick snack, side dish, or even breakfast!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 Tablespoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 4 Tablespoons butter, melted
  • 2 cups freshly shredded cheddar cheese (from block)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Pre-heat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it’s ready for baking once your batter is prepared.
  2. Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, garlic powder, and salt until well combined.
  3. Add the Wet Ingredients: Make a well in the center of the dry mixture and add the milk, egg, and melted butter. Whisk quickly, mixing just until combined. Do not over whisk, as the batter will thicken fast and over-mixing can make the bread dense.
  4. Incorporate the Cheese: Add the freshly shredded cheddar cheese to the batter. Using a rubber spatula, gently fold or mix the cheese into the batter until evenly distributed.
  5. Bake the Bread: Pour the batter into a greased bread pan, spreading evenly. Place in the oven and bake for 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean and the top is golden.
  6. Cool and Serve: Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then, carefully remove it from the pan and transfer to a wire rack to cool slightly. Slice and serve warm with butter or chive cream cheese.

Notes

  • Use freshly shredded cheddar cheese for best results, as pre-shredded cheese contains anti-caking agents that prevent proper melting.
  • Do not overmix the batter to ensure a tender loaf texture.
  • Serve slices with butter or flavored cream cheese for extra flavor.
  • This bread is best enjoyed warm, but can be reheated for later use.
