Description

This Cheddar Bay Ground Beef Cobbler is a fun and cheesy twist on a classic comfort food! A savory ground beef mixture is topped with a fluffy Cheddar Bay biscuit topping and baked to golden perfection. It’s a hearty and satisfying meal that’s perfect for a casual weeknight dinner or a potluck gathering.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1.5 lbs lean ground beef
  • 1 yellow onion, diced
  • 1 tablespoon chopped garlic
  • 10.5 oz can condensed cheddar cheese soup
  • 10.5 oz can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided

Topping:

  • 1 box Cheddar Bay Biscuit mix
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • Fresh chopped parsley

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Brown Beef: Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown ground beef with diced onions. Drain excess grease.
  2. Make Filling: Stir in garlic, cheddar cheese soup, cream of mushroom soup, milk, salt, and pepper. Cook until well combined. Remove from heat and stir in 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese.
  3. Assemble in Baking Dish: Spray a 9×13 inch baking dish with cooking spray. Pour the ground beef mixture into the dish and spread evenly. Sprinkle with remaining 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese.
  4. Make Biscuit Topping: In a bowl, combine biscuit mix (without the seasoning packet), shredded cheddar cheese, and milk. Stir until well combined.
  5. Top and Bake: Pour biscuit batter over the ground beef mixture. Bake for 50-55 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown.
  6. Make Butter Topping: While the cobbler bakes, melt butter and combine with the seasoning packet from the biscuit mix.
  7. Finish and Serve: Remove the cobbler from the oven and brush the top with the butter mixture. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for the ground beef.
  • If you don’t have Cheddar Bay Biscuit mix, you can use another biscuit mix or make your own biscuits from scratch.
  • For a spicier cobbler, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes to the ground beef mixture.
