Dry Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp garlic powder
Other Ingredients
- 1 stick butter (cold, diced)
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar recommended)
- 1 tbsp parsley (chopped)
Wet Ingredients
- 1 cup buttermilk
For Brushing
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- 1 tsp garlic powder
Instructions
- Prepare Dry Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and garlic powder. Mix together to ensure an even distribution of the leaveners and seasoning.
- Incorporate Cold Butter: Cut the stick of cold butter into small, pea-sized cubes. Using a stand mixer, blender, or pastry cutter, incorporate the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. This step helps create a flaky texture.
- Add Cheese and Parsley: Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and chopped parsley, mixing just until evenly distributed throughout the flour mixture.
- Add Buttermilk: Using your hand or a mixing paddle, gently fold in the buttermilk. Be careful not to overmix; the dough should come together to be scoopable but still soft.
- Form Biscuits: Lightly spray the air fryer basket with oil. Using an ice cream scoop or large spoon, portion clumps of dough and place them in the air fryer basket. Itโs fine for the biscuits to touch.
- Air Fry Biscuits: Spray the tops of the biscuits with oil and air fry at 380ยฐF (193ยฐC) for 5 minutes. Carefully turn the biscuits and cook for an additional 2 minutes until golden brown.
- Brush with Garlic Butter: Stir the remaining garlic powder into the melted butter. When biscuits are done, brush the tops with the garlic butter for added flavor.
Notes
- The less you handle or knead the dough, the lighter and fluffier the biscuits will be.
- For best lift and flavor, dice and freeze the butter before incorporating it into the flour mixture.
- Bake the biscuits close together in the air fryer basket to keep the middles soft and fluffy while the tops become golden.
- Biscuit size can be adjusted for larger servings; larger biscuits can be used for sandwiches.
- Brushing with melted garlic butter when theyโre fresh out of the air fryer adds extra flavor.
